BEENLEIGH, QUEENSLAND – Today – Spirits of the Red Sand today announced it is hosting Australia’s first ever annual Wild foods and Cultural festival as part of NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders
Day Observance Committee) on Sunday 15 November, 2020. NAIDOC celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the festival itself has received a generous grant of $5000 by the Australian Government, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Hosted by Spirits of the Red Sand, Queensland’s No. 1 Must do Attraction the Wild Foods and Cultural festival features an exciting mix of live entertainment, demonstrations and kids activities from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural groups and businesses within the region. Uncle Eddie Ruska, Cultural Elder and Co-founder of Spirits of the Red Sand created the idea of a Wild Foods and Cultural festival with his family and says “Sharing our culture is at the heart of who we are and this festival highlights the solid talent and cultural experiences our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples represent.”
A talented line up of performers includes headliner, renowned country and blues singer, storyteller and pioneering indigenous artist Adam James, and MC, Australia’s Got Talent, Chris Tamwoy. Together with Spirits of the Red Sand’s powerful cultural demonstrations, performances by Australia’s No#1 Aboriginal dance troupe, Nunukul Yuggera, and a variety of food stalls, cooking demonstrations, bush tucker tours and incredible kid’s activities there will be so much to discover and share for all Australians. “Although it’s been a challenging year for travel and hospitality, we want to open up our doors for everyone to join us at this free festival to celebrate NAIDOC at a COVID safe event that showcases our cultural offerings in a truly authentic and meaningful way.” Says Mike Tamaki, Co-Founder of Spirits of the Red Sand.
