The Gold Coast is Australia’s adventure playground for all ages. It is world-famous for its gorgeous long sandy beaches, its perfect surf spots and its labyrinth of lush inland waterways. People also visit for the hinterland forest walks, the wildlife, the markets, cuisine, shopping and aboriginal cultural experiences. While your first, quintessential stop on the Gold Coast should of course simply be to head to the beach, we’ve got you covered for activity ideas whatever your age and stage below – all great additions to Spirits of the Red Sand.

Holidays with Children

For those of you navigating a holiday with children, kids and adults alike will love sampling the street food from all around the world at Miami Marketta, or getting lost on the trails at the incredible Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens. The Gold Coast Aquatic centre caters for everyone too: kids will love the splash pool, and parents might like to swim some laps or hit the gym. Obviously, the Gold Coast is world famous for its theme parks – it would take a week to get through them all, so choose carefully and try for a package deal.

For more family fun, explore the glow worms, rainforest skywalk and wildlife at Lamington National Park, splash around on the inflatable water obstacles at Aqua Park in Broadwater Parklands, or meet a platypus at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Off the Beaten Track

Or perhaps you are travelling alone or as a couple and might like to get off the beaten track and explore the hidden gems of the Gold Coast. The Village Markets is a great spot to discover original boutique fashion and lifestyle products before they hit the mainstream. A visit to the Burleigh Taphouse will quench your thirst with some great craft beers – they were one of the first craft breweries on the local scene.

For an outdoor adventure, head to Currumbin Rock Pools for leaping off ledges into pools or lounging on sun-baked rocks. If you prefer to stay dry, there’s beautiful hiking to be had at Natural Bridge in Springbrook National park – there’s a beautiful waterfall, glow worms, and native wildlife in this ancient rainforest.

Children at Spirits of the Red Sands

Of course, whatever age or stage you’re at – travelling solo, as a couple or with the whole family – your unmissable itinerary item is of course Spirits of the Red Sand, 30 minutes from central Gold Coast. We’ll move you with intimate, interactive live theatre (with dramatic light and sound installations) and Aboriginal culture, followed by a hearty, nourishing three-course dinner (think 5-star restaurant creations brought to life with a fabulous bush-tucker twist).

We hope to see you on the Gold Coast soon – from forests and beaches to markets and culture, there’s so much to discover!
