BEENLEIGH, QUEENSLAND – Today – Spirits of the Red Sand today announced it will host a unique Waitangi Day Celebration to welcome Māori ‘on country’ and to celebrate the significance of Waitangi Day with all the Kiwis in the region. The event kicks off with a formal greeting by the bloodline descendants of the land, a message stick challenge and an acceptance by Māori. All guests will then be invited through a smoking ceremony before cultural performances by both cultures.

“As a proud Māori man these types of events embrace our goal to bring culture to life through its histories, peoples and stories, for it is through awareness and understanding that we build more tolerance and love for each other,” said Michael Tamaki, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, Spirits of the Red Sand and Founder, Tamaki Māori Village, New Zealand. The format of the day starts with guests invited to gather around the hangi pit as it is prepared and laid. Over 30 market stalls and international food trucks will be displaying their local wares and from 9am the official Welcome to Country; Wero; Māori and Aboriginal performances, Australia’s Got Talent Chris Tamwoy, Victoria Tamaki and Eugene Kanoa are some of the entertainers at this free community cultural event.
